Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced imaging tool using both magnetic fields and radio waves to image the human body. MRI studies do not require x-rays. There are no known biological hazards to people who have been exposed to magnetic fields of the strength used in medical imaging today.
MRI is especially useful in imaging the brain, spinal cord, musculoskeletal systems, abdomen and pelvis, as well as major blood vessels.
In many cases, MRI can provide high anatomic detail in imaging the body and can detect a wide variety of diseases.
